16 Weeks & Home Doppler

I worked from home earlier this week and decided that was the day I'd finally give in and use the home doppler my friend sent me.  I knew that it might cause more anxiety than joy and boy was I right!  For me, it was a *terrible* idea!  I tried twice without any luck and finally, a few hours later, I was able to find what I assume is the baby's heartbeat, but even then I wasn't absolutely sure.  There was a nice strong heartbeat in the 140's and I decided to just assume it was the baby's and be done with the doppler!

Many people have had luck with it, but I think I'm putting it away for good.  For those of you who have used one with great success, any tips or tricks?  I just kept getting random "heartbeats" all over the place, which I assume were actually veins or arteries or maybe even my heartbeat?

Hopefully we'll have a good ultrasound next week and soon I'll be able to feel movements, which I can use for reassurance.  I thought I'd be okay during this couple week gap without ultrasounds, but I'll admit to having a lot of anxiety about whether our little girl is still alive.  I haven't had any signs to indicate that she isn't, but my head just keeps going there.

In an effort to distract myself and keep exercising, I set a goal for my 2nd trimester of walking 10,000 steps each day.  I have a FitBit that I love and am addicted to.  In my "normal" life, I run marathons and have finished a few Ironmans, so I'm very goal-oriented and even though 10,000 steps should not be that hard to reach, I've found it very motivating.  On days when I want to just curl up and read or watch TV, I force myself to get out for a run or a walk and I never regret it.  Anyway, it's a great distraction.

One week until our next ultrasound... not that I'm counting!

  1. Sorry the doppler stressed you out hon! Glad you were able to find her heartbeat eventually. 140 BPM is way too fast to be your heartbeat so I'd say your girl is doing just fine, but yay for only 1 more week until your next scan! My next appointment with the Dr and scan is next week too and then the anatomy scan is a few days later! Hopefully all will be just perfect with our little ones! When's your anatomy scan? Your walking goal is amazing! I'm exercising 5-6 days/week, but it's mostly prenatal yoga and palates and a prenatal exercise dvd I have that uses weights. I'm also walking, but have no idea how many steps. I'm sure it's nowhere near 10,000 each day!

    1. Oh, I am hoping for both of us that this week is a smooth one with good news. I've been having terrible feelings that something is wrong (not for any logical reason, just emotionally. My anxiety from losing L is definitely creeping in. The exercise is my way of having control over something in my life right now :) Can't wait for your update this week.

  2. I love your exercise goals. I (unfortunately) haven't been exercising very much the past few weeks because of the bleeding/spotting and I feel a little worse for the wear because of it. I can't wait to start walking/running and yoga again. Can't wait to hear about the next ultrasound!

    1. I hope you are back to exercising soon and feeling more like yourself. I get into such a funk when I don't workout. I wish it were Thursday already!

  3. I can't believe you've ditched the doppler. I desperately want one but can't afford it right now. Congrats on all of the walking you've been getting in. I totally want a fit bit too. I'm have technology envy in this post. LOL

    1. Jessah, I am going to ask my doctor to show me how to use the doppler when I go in on Thursday b/c maybe I am just doing something wrong. But if I decide to officially put it away for good, I am HAPPY to send it to you. Seriously - someone should get some use out of it!! And the FitBit.... I love it.
